In August of 1974 the Vero Beach Orchid Society was created by Dominic Lettiere, a long time resident of Vero Beach. His love for orchids prompted him to seek other orchid lovers and form the first orchid society for Vero Beach.

Many people with similar desire came together and a group of orchid enthusiasts started meeting in the Lettiere home. As the new group grew meetings were held at the Community Center until plans were made to hold meetings at the Vero Beach Garden Center.

In less than a year the group had grown to 30-40 members. The group adopted a charter, elected officers, and voted to become affiliated with the American Orchid Society. Today the Vero Beach Orchids Society remains an active and enthusiastic group of orchid lovers. We meet on the third Thursday of each month, except for the months of May and December, at the Garden Club of Indian River County located at 2526 17th Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida. All meetings begin at 7PM.

Membership is open to anyone having a interest in orchids, regardless of an individual's level of expertise. We believe that we have learned and wish to continue to share the knowledge with others within the society and others
outside as well.

Annually, the Vero Beach Orchid Society produce an American Orchid Society sanctioned and judged orchid show. We invite other local societies to install table top displays (30"X72").

We also offer judging of orchids to individuals who are not associated with any orchid societies. Orchids judged may receive AOS awards and ribbons.
